In Fall of 2014, the Echols Council launched a student-to-student mentoring program for incoming first year Echols Scholars. The mission of this program is to provide first year scholars with a wide range of insights from older peers to help them quickly adjust to college life and excel at the University of Virginia.

First year students have the option to be matched with an upperclassmen Echols scholar of similar academic and extracurricular interests prior to their summer orientation session. Upperclassmen mentors are trained to help first year scholars select the right courses and take advantage of the unique resources and opportunities our Honors program has to offer.

Throughout the year, the Echols Council organizes several events for all members of the program to network and create meaningful relationships with other scholars. As a result, this program creates a tight-knit community of scholars committed to helping their peers reach their maximum potential at the University of Virginia.
